We’re delighted that BM3’s Tammy Kariolis, Project Designer at our Birmingham Office, achieved first place in the ExtraCare Charitable Trust Smart Pod Competition. The winning design of a stand-alone dwelling will showcase the future of retirement living in to the 21st century.

The POD is designed with modern and moveable features yet is coupled with the warmth and comforts of home. The POD comprises of 3 segments - SLEEPING, HEALING and LIVING - and once transported and put into place, the UTILITY section of the healing segment slides open to reveal 60m² of total useable space.

The concept for the Healing Space is to bring the outside in and to always have a linear connection between the Living and Sleeping segments. The indoor garden to be used to promote healing, encourage a connection to nature to improve the quality of life and intended to give the residents the freedom to transform the POD into a home.
