Highgate Road, Birmingham

Costc. £12m

Highgate Road is an affordable housing development comprising of 60 new homes in Birmingham. With a mix of 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, and 2, 4, 5, and 6-bedroom houses, this development is designed for flexibility, comfort and family living.
Located on a site with significant spatial constraints, the development demonstrates how thoughtful design and intelligent planning can optimise a housing layout, without compromising on quality. Retained green spaces, mature trees, and a dedicated habitat area, contributes to local biodiversity. Although planning permission was granted before the governments Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements came into effect, the scheme still achieves measurable net increase in biodiversity.

At BM3, we always prioritise positive community engagement, which is why for this scheme we have maintained open communication with local residents and businesses, initiating school visits, and posting a dedicated community notice board to help foster inclusivity. With a carefully considered mix of housing typologies, the development supports a diverse and inclusive community, with all homes designed to not only meet immediate needs, but to also promote long-term comfort, liveability, and wellbeing.

Throughout this project, we delivered social value through apprenticeships and work placements, rehabilitation support, school and careers engagement, and £6,000 in charitable and industry sponsorships including Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Client Testimonial
“Birmingham City Council’s Housing Development Team has worked with BM3 for over a decade, delivering much-needed affordable housing across the city. Together, we’ve created aesthetic and sustainable homes on some of Birmingham’s most challenging sites. Highgate Road was designed to provide a strong mix of 60 affordable, larger family homes and apartments. The scheme exemplifies a design-led approach with quality landscaping and public open space that fosters community engagement. BM3’s experience and attention to detail are second to none. We look forward to continuing our work with the BM3 architectural team for many years to come.”
